Paraprofessional/Classroom Aide
Job Description
JOB GOAL:
The role of the paraprofessional is to provide additional support in special education and general education classrooms where children with pre-diagnosed moderate to severe disabilities are enrolled.
The paraprofessional’s goal is to assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning classroom environment in which all children can take full advantage of and benefit from the instructional program and available resource materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Interest in children and education
Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment
Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff.
Serves as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular certified staff.
Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff.
Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student.
Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips.
Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines.
Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
Participates in in-service and training programs as approved.
Performs other such duties / assignments as directed by the certified staff.
Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position constitutes an employee at will for the Stanley Community Public School District.
60-day probation period
Approximately nine month working period
Fulfills the requirements of the state of North Dakota for Paraprofessionals
Criminal history/background check required
WAGES AND BENEFITS:
Wages:
Miniumum $17.
64/hour (depending on experience)
100% Single Health Policy
2 Personal Days per Year (Non accumulating)
10 Sick days per year accumulating to 15 days
3 paid holidays per year – Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day (for full time status only)
