Minot State University’s POWER Center, funded by two federal TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) grants, is committed to students' academic, personal, social, and career success.

Through advocacy, mentoring, exploration, and inspiration each student is empowered to become a responsible, life-long learner.
The position serves as an integral team member dedicated to student success.
Academic Coach will meet regularly with program participants, administer assessments to students, document student contacts, plan, implement, and coordinate programming and workshops specific to the TRIO student population.
This position will complete necessary follow-up to ensure compliance and work toward achieving set goals in retention, academic performance, and student graduation.
Position also serves as a liaison between department advisors and student services offices.
Advise students participating in the TRiO-SSS (POWER) program
Serve as project advisor for students in the TRiO SSS or SSSD programs at Minot State University
Assist students with course selection, degree requirements, navigating holds, and financial aid options
Offer students solutions to various educational, career, and personal issues as they arise
Function as a liaison between departments advisors and student services offices
Document all student contact in Blumen, Starfish and update notes in files
Research best practices in holistic advising, intrusive advising, and other models benefitting participants
Plan, develop and execute online and on-campus workshops to directly and indirectly benefit students
Work with other POWER Center team members to create and offer developmental programming for students with activities/events
Evaluate activities on an ongoing basis to increase participation, engagement and student satisfaction
Assist at campus registrations and/or orientations (New Student Orientation and Welcome Weekend) and POWER orientations/group activities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, psychology, social work, or related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
At least two years of work experience with academic advising, admissions counseling, academic support programs, career counseling, mentoring, residence life, wellness, and/or providing student services is required.
A higher education setting is preferred.
Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with college students; understand the needs of college students; and make effective referrals to college resources.
Effective written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and administrators; ability to work independently and collaborate as a member of a team; experience with Microsoft Office Suite; and ability to learn other software.
Experience working with academically at-risk students, low-income students, minority students, and/or students with disabilities.
Occasional out-of-town travel for conferences, training and student trips, may be required.
Evening and weekend hours may be required to provide effective programming.
