What you will do:
The Controller will report to and collaborate closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and oversee General Accounting, A/P, payroll, cost reporting, tax, stats, surveys, and budget.
S/he will support the existing accounting systems, aid in the evaluation and implementation of new systems, and special projects as directed.
The position requires an individual who is meticulous, enthusiastic, initiative-taking, works well with others, multi-tasks and willing to accept new challenges as they arise.
Responsibilities:
Maintains exact financial records of the hospital’s status.
Utilizes an accounting system that meets the needs of the hospital.
Provides required financial reports and statements to administration.
Maintains the General Ledger on a day-to-day transaction basis posting various adjustments to the ledger and preparing a monthly closeout.
Prepares the monthly financial reports and cash flow.
Statements and annual Audit and Cost Report schedules for external Auditors/Cost Report Preparers.
Closes out all General Ledger accounts and runs the end-of-month reports including the Trial Balance and Detail of Accounts reports.
Maintains fixed assets records and depreciation records.
Runs comparative Departmental Financial Statements monthly.
Provides financial support and information to other hospital departments.
Assists the CFO with the organizational budget process.
Assists the CFO and Administrator in the Capital
Expenditure Process and in any Special Projects.
Serve as lead on Annual Audit by Independent CPA Firm

What you will need:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field needed.
Master’s Degree and/or CPA highly desirable.
Expert level Excel Skills needed.
Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to use business office equipment including personal computers and have good computer skills.
Licensure, Registry or Certification: None needed.
CPA, CIA FHFMA, CMA preferred.
Experience: Healthcare and CAH, Epic and Workday/Lawson all preferred
Prior Work Experience: Five or more years’ experience in health care accounting/finance in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) including supervisory experience needed.
Technical Training: Office equipment and computer training desirable, outstanding Excel skills.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching required.
Must be able to lift items up to a weight of forty pounds.
The ability to understand and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
Ability to drive in snow.
